As a symbol of tolerance, the president of the Brandenburg state parliament, Ulrike Liedtke (SPD), will raise a rainbow flag on Monday at noon in the inner courtyard of the state parliament. The Minister for Social Cohesion, René Wilke (SPD), will also be present. In addition, the colorful flag is to fly in front of the ministry building in Potsdam as a symbol against discrimination, violence, and hate.
The occasion is the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersex, and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT), which was observed nationwide on Sunday with actions and rallies. Wilke said: “In a time of increasing queer-targeted assaults, it is more important than ever to take a stand—and in a literal sense, to show color.”
The AfD rejected the flag-raising. “The rainbow culture is pure decadence,” said René Springer, the Brandenburg AfD state chairman, in a statement.
The Bundestag had, for one day on Sunday, also raised the rainbow flag in front of and above the Reichstag building in Berlin (TheColu.mn reported).
