TheColu.mn was born out of a simple idea: our stories deserve to be told — fully, honestly, and unapologetically. Founded in Minneapolis, Minnesota, we began as a small local project covering the victories, challenges, and everyday lives of LGBTQ+ people in our community. Very quickly, it became clear that these stories didn’t stop at city limits. Our struggles, celebrations, and realities are shared by millions around the country and across the globe, and TheColu.mn became the bridge to connect them.
Our mission is rooted in three values: truth, inclusion, and visibility. We believe in telling the stories that mainstream outlets overlook or reduce to headlines. We cover politics and policy, but also art, culture, and the everyday moments that shape queer lives. Every voice matters — whether it’s a trans teen in rural Minnesota, a drag artist in New York, or an activist marching in São Paulo. We stand for journalism that is rigorous, compassionate, and deeply human.
From our Minnesota roots, we’ve grown into a platform that embraces the LGBTQ+ community in all its diversity, everywhere. We’re here to inform, inspire, and amplify — to ensure that our community sees itself reflected in the media landscape, not as an afterthought but as the beating heart of the story. At TheColu.mn, we’re not just reporting news. We’re telling the world who we are, here, there, and everywhere.
