The Big Bang Theory: Stuart Spin-Off Premiere Date Confirmed

The next spin-off in The Big Bang Theory universe is coming in just a few months. At the CCXP convention in Mexico City, the stars surrounding Kevin Sussman (55) reportedly announced that “Stuart Fails to Save the Universe” will premiere this July. They did not provide a specific date within the month. The spin-off is set to stream on HBO Max.

Alongside the Mexico City announcement, HBO Max posted the first photos from “Stuart Fails to Save the Universe” on Instagram. In addition to Kevin Sussman, the photos feature the Big Bang Theory alumni Lauren Lapkus, Brian Posehn, and John Ross Bowie. The main cast from the mother series, such as Jim Parsons or Johnny Galecki, are not pictured. Their characters will only appear on the fringes in the spin-off.

Accompanying the images, HBO Max shared the official logline for “Stuart Fails to Save the Universe”: “If it doesn’t work the first time, try it in another multiverse.”

What it’s about in “Stuart Fails to Save the Universe”
“Stuart Fails to Save the Universe” brings a science-fiction angle into the “Big Bang Theory” cosmos for the first time. At the center is the titular comic-book seller Stuart Bloom. He accidentally destroys a device that the physicists Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Leonard (Johnny Galecki) built, thereby unleashing the apocalypse.

Now Stuart has to save the world. To do so, he travels with his girlfriend Denise (Lapkus), his geology buddy Bert (Posehn), and the quantum physicist Barry Kripke (Bowie) through various multiverses. Along the way, he encounters alternate versions of familiar characters from The Big Bang Theory.

Next Spin-off from The Big Bang Theory

A further spin-off of “The Big Bang Theory” had already been announced in spring 2023. In fall 2024 it was confirmed that Stuart Bloom would take center stage. Filming began in September 2025 and ended in February 2026.

“I wanted to do something radical that would push me outside of my comfort zone. Something that the characters from ‘The Big Bang Theory’ would have loved, hated, and argued about,” said “Big Bang Theory” creator Chuck Lorre in the summer of 2025.

“Stuart Fails to Save the Universe” is, after “Young Sheldon,” the second spin-off from The Big Bang Theory. “Young Sheldon,” in turn, has given rise to the spin-off “Georgie & Mandy.” (spot)
