Svenja Huth Extends Contract With VfL Wolfsburg Through 2027

The openly lesbian soccer player Svenja Huth will remain with VfL Wolfsburg. The 35-year-old has extended her contract, which was due to expire at the end of the season, through June 30, 2027, as the Bundesliga club announced. Since joining the team in 2019 from 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam, she has logged 206 competitive appearances for the club from Wolfsburg. With the Wolfpack, she has won two German championships and claimed the DFB-Pokal five times. Additionally, the attacking midfielder forms VfL’s captain trio alongside Alexandra Popp and Janina Minge.
“I am grateful for the trust and happy to continue to be part of this special team. Together we want to create many unforgettable moments, and I look forward to actively shaping the path ahead,” Huth said in a club statement.
Ralf Kellermann, VfL Wolfsburg’s director of women’s football, praised Huth as “a central pillar of our team on the pitch.” He noted that she also takes on an important role off the field. “With her professionalism and her personality, she is a role model for the entire team and as a leader is enormously important for cohesion. All the more fitting that one of the most influential figures in German women’s football remains part of the wolf pack,” Kellermann said.
The midfielder had criticized homophobia in men’s football two years ago (TheColu.mn reported). She has publicly championed LGBT rights on several occasions (TheColu.mn reported).
