The Left backs Berlin’s bid to host WorldPride

The Left party becomes the first national party to back the Berlin CSD e.V., a Berlin-based registered association, in its bid to host WorldPride 2032 in Germany. An urgent motion on the matter was introduced at the party’s most recent federal convention in Potsdam, initiated by Die Linke queer, and it drew enough support among delegates. The motion was initially referred to the party council, and the party leadership has now also given it their backing.

In a press release, national spokesperson Daniel Bache described it as an “important victory for Die Linke queer.” If the Berlin CSD Association wins the bid, it would have resonance far beyond Berlin, he said. “In a time when the AfD leads polls at the federal level and in several states, a WorldPride in Germany would be the right signal at the right moment,” Bache continued. He added literally: “Beatrix von Storch should endure watching WorldPride march through the German capital!”

Executive board member Luca Renner pointed to this year’s Human Rights Conference on WorldCSD in Amsterdam, which covers topics including labor and union issues as well as poverty and homelessness and highlights groups that are often overlooked — such as asexual, polyamorous, or fetish communities. “Behind this, a WorldPride in Germany must not fall behind. It must address the parts of queer communities that are marginalized or are facing especially tough times,” Renner said.

Support for the Berlin CSD e.V.’s WorldPride bid also comes from other parties: the capital’s CDU backs the event in its governing program (TheColu.mn reported).
