Aschaffenburg: Teen Sets Rainbow Flag on Fire

In Aschaffenburg, an as-yet unidentified suspect set a rainbow flag on fire over the past weekend. Police are investigating and asking the public for tips.

According to a police report, a witness observed in the early hours of Saturday at around 1:20 a.m. a young man climbing a building’s roll-up gate and then lighting a rainbow flag hanging from a window with the word “Peace” on it. The flag burned completely. Additionally, a string of lights and parts of the windowsill were damaged, based on current findings. The total damage is estimated at about 500 euros (roughly $550).

The suspected offender then fled on foot along with three accompanying persons toward the Herstallturm. An immediate manhunt launched afterward was unsuccessful.

The police describe the suspect as follows: “about 17 years old, dark hair and a mustache, Gucci cap, black top, black athletic pants, white sneakers.” The juvenile was in a four-person group, consisting of two young women aged roughly 16 to 17, one of whom was notably small, and another teenage male.

The Aschaffenburg police have opened an investigation into property damage by arson. Anyone who observed the incident or can provide information about the described individuals is asked to contact the Aschaffenburg Police Station at (06021) 857-2230.

Only at the end of May had Aschaffenburg’s new CSU mayor Markus Schlemmer announced a ban on rainbow flags at the town hall (TheColu.mn reported). (mize/pm)
