Hella von Sinnen launches a podcast — but she won’t listen to it herself.

Comedian Hella von Sinnen now has her own podcast — even though she long ignored the medium as a listener. “Honestly: I don’t listen to podcasts at all. The topic has completely passed me by for years,” the 67-year-old told the German press agency.

“I was invited to podcasts two or three times and I listened to those specific episodes afterward, but I never got the idea to check out other formats,” she admitted.

Sinnen’s Podcast Is Also Available as a Video

The reason for her lack of interest is simple: she loves visuals. “I’m a confirmed streamer, a serial binge-watcher of series, a movie enthusiast, and not least an avid reader of comics,” von Sinnen said.
Her first own podcast, Gestatten, von Sinnen!, which drops a new episode every Friday, blends both formats: you can listen to it or watch it in video. Many podcasts today follow this path, combining image with audio. Von Sinnen thinks that works very well for her. “I get to keep wearing my colorful jackets, and everyone gets to see them,” she noted.

Experience from Cologne Pubs

In the format, the openly lesbian entertainer chats with other celebrities, including Mike Krüger and Evelyn Burdecki. Von Sinnen, who has reemerged into public life after a serious fall in 2024, believes she is well suited for this role.
“Thanks to my television work I’m generally known more as a talkative quiz host or as the perpetual arguer with Hugo Egon Balder, but at heart I’ve always been an attentive listener,” she said. “Back in the 1980s I liked going to Cologne pubs all by myself, just to sit at the bar.” Whoever happened to be there would quickly find themselves drawn into a deep conversation.

She is genuinely interested in people and their stories, von Sinnen said. “These days it might not feel as spontaneous, because many people think Hella just wants to talk about herself.” The 67-year-old became known as a comedian, host, and entertainer — notably with RTL’s show “Alles Nichts Oder?!” and the comedy quiz “Genial daneben.”

Her podcast is a production of Re*play, the podcast studio of Raab Entertainment. The label is led, among others, by Stefan Raab.
