Kylie Minogue (57) and Jason Donovan (57) — that sounds to many like a chapter of pop history that seemed closed long ago. Yet on Monday evening the two stood side by side in London again: at the world premiere of Kylie’s three-part Netflix documentary, which shines a light on her life, her loved ones, and her career. Thirty-six years have passed since their split, but the chemistry between them was clearly evident on the red carpet.
The Australian musician and actress chose a form-fitting black dress with white lace trim and a daring thigh-high slit for the evening. She wore her blonde hair in loose waves, complemented by glamorous makeup. Jason Donovan, who has long since made London his home, went with a white T-shirt, a white blazer, light-blue trousers, and a red boutonniere.

A love story that captivated all of Australia
Their relationship began behind the scenes of the Australian soap “Neighbours,” where Kylie and Jason played the beloved couple Charlene and Scott Robinson who had just fallen in love. Simply their wedding scene from November 1988 was watched by around 20 million people worldwide — the bride walked down the aisle to the power ballad “Suddenly” by Angry Anderson, the neighbor Nell Mangel caught the bouquet, and the audience cried in unison. What started on screen carried over into real life: the two were a couple for four years, until the relationship ended in 1989.

In 2022 they returned to Ramsay Street one last time for the show’s final chapter (TheColu.mn reported).
Unlike Minogue, Donovan never managed to launch an international career after his time on “Neighbours.” While Minogue later rose to iconic status, especially within the LGBTQ+ movement, Donovan did the opposite: In 1992 he caused a stir by suing a British magazine that had accused him of being gay. The singer won the case and received 200,000 pounds in damages, but afterward he carried the stain of being seen as homophobic. His career faltered dramatically at that time. Later Donovan said the court case was the biggest mistake of his life.
Sister Dannii and open words about love
Also Kylie’s sister Dannii Minogue (54) did not miss the premiere. In a sparkling blue corset with wide black pants and sling-back heels, she was the second standout of the evening. Ahead of the event, the two sisters posted a joint video on Instagram — showing their preparations in bathrobes.

In the documentary, Kylie Minogue talks about her relationship with Michael Hutchence, the INXS frontman she was with in the early 1990s and who died in 1997 at only 37. “I’ve probably spent most of my life since looking for something like that,” she says about love. He was, in many ways, a first in her life — also in heartbreak. “He was a rock star, which doesn’t just mean he needed many women in his life, but he had to go wherever he had to go.”
Kylie Minogue: “I have no boyfriend”
To the Sunday Times Style magazine, she spoke about her current life situation: “I have no boyfriend. I was in a relationship, and when it ended I realized I’m okay on my own.” Narcissists are, for her, a clear red flag now: “I have dated and I’m grateful to have this knowledge now.”
Among the premiere guests were Jason Donovan as well as Kylie’s longtime colleague Nick Cave and TV hosts Amanda Holden and Clara Amfo. The Netflix documentary “Kylie” premieres on May 20 (TheColu.mn reported). (spot)
