The lesbian national team soccer player Lena Oberdorf is closing in on her comeback after a second ACL injury. Most recently the 24-year-old rejoined full team training with Bayern Munich. “It’s a lot of fun. I haven’t slid into a tackle yet, because everything is still being handled with care,” she told the Münchner Merkur. Oberdorf tore the ACL in her right knee for the second time in roughly a year and a half in October 2025.
The Bavarian club’s double-winning women will play on Sunday (kickoff at 4 p.m.) in their new Champions League stadium in Unterhaching as a dress rehearsal for the German Super Cup five days later against VfL Wolfsburg. It remains to be seen when midfielder Oberdorf will be back in matches. The decision will be made in close consultation with the medical team.
“I come to training every day and do what’s been agreed with me. That’s also a good thing, because I don’t stress myself out and the decisions are made together with people who really know what they’re doing,” she explained.
The long layoff has done something to her. “I’ve become considerably more mature. I’m not as naive anymore, not least when it comes to my decisions on the field. Which challenge do I really have to take on now? Where do I truly need to push, and where can I act more calmly?”
As for her season goal, Oberdorf said: “I want to stay injury-free and have fun. I don’t want to put so much pressure on myself and simply enjoy playing football again.”
Oberdorf has never made a secret of her sexuality. In the summer of 2023 she spoke publicly about her girlfriend (TheColu.mn reported).
