Olivia Colman (52) is set to join the murder hunt: the British Oscar winner is joining the cast of the sixth season of “Only Murders in the Building”. The news was announced with an unusual video on the show’s official Instagram account.
The clip frames the casting in a little sketch. Selena Gomez, who appears in the series as Mabel Mora, notes that they’ve already had plenty of great guest stars for the London edition of “Only Murders”. Meryl Streep, who plays the actress Loretta Durkin, counters: one is still missing.

Then Martin Short enters the frame, which prompts Streep’s reaction: “No, Marty, you’ve been at this longer”— indeed since the first season. Next comes the actual new addition Olivia Colman into the frame. She smiles and delivers a small bow. “Olivia Colman is joining Season Six,” the caption on the post simply states.

Colman is thus the latest addition to a star-packed and especially British ensemble. Beyond her, the lineup includes David Tennant, Jodie Whittaker, Martin Freeman, Nicola Coughlan, Simone Ashley, Derek Jacobi, and Geri Halliwell-Horner. From the main cast, Gomez, Streep, and Short are back, along with Steve Martin and Michael Cyril Creighton.
First Outside the United States
“Only Murders” has streamed since 2021 on Hulu or Disney+ and has become a genuine hit. In season 6, the mystery-comedy leaves the U.S. for the first time and heads to London to unravel the death of Cinda Canning. Tina Fey’s character was front and center at the end of season five. A release is expected in 2027.
Olivia Colman has become known for roles in “The Favourite,” “The Crown,” “Broadchurch,” and “Fleabag.” In the first and second seasons of “Heartstopper” she played Sarah Nelson, the mother of main character Nick (Kit Connor). Next, she is set to portray a fisherwoman alongside Peter Dinklage in “Wicker,” which hits theaters in February.
