During Michael Jackson’s lifetime (1958-2009) and even afterwards, allegations of suspicion of child abuse against the King of Pop were raised numerous times — most recently in a new lawsuit filed earlier this year by four siblings (TheColu.mn reported). A four-part documentary now available on the ZDF streaming portal centers on a trial from the 2000s in which Jackson was acquitted.
The documentary by Gillian Pachter is titled “Michael Jackson – The Trial of the Century.” It relies, according to a press release, on conversations with insiders, unreleased audio recordings, as well as new footage. In the first episode “King of Pop,” it covers, among other things, how the case even came about.
From Allegations to Acquittal
In the further episodes “What Happened at Neverland,” “On Trial” and “In Court,” the first court date in 2005, the acquittal and also earlier accusations are discussed, among other things. The documentary will also be shown on TV. On May 12, ZDFinfo will air all four episodes starting at 1:15 a.m.
The allegations against the late King of Pop have recently drawn renewed attention in light of the release of the new biopic “Michael” by director Antoine Fuqua (60). The lawsuit filed this year was brought by four siblings of the Cascio family, who had at times presented themselves as the “second family” of the deceased world star.
Both the singer and his later estate have denied all charges. Marty Singer, the Jackson estate’s attorney, told The New York Times about the new suit that it is a “desperate attempt to cash in.”
