Guido’s Decor Queen Returns to Primetime

The Cologne-based private broadcaster Vox is bringing its daytime format “Guidos Deko Queen” to prime time next month: On two Tuesdays, September 16 and September 23, a special version of the show titled “The Challenge” will air at 8:15 p.m. on the RTL Group–owned channel. Compared to the regular weekday 4 p.m. timeslot, the primetime edition promises “more rooms, more time, more money, and above all more decorating,” the network announced. The prime-time version will be hosted by star designer Guido Maria Kretschmer as well.

In the episodes, two amateur decorating specialists go head-to-head in a direct duel and redecorate not one, but three rooms to fit a specified theme. For this, they, along with their assistants, have three days and a budget of 10,000 euros.

On September 16, Kai and Lena will decorate and style their rooms around the theme “Vacation Vibes.” Then, with the theme “Green Living,” the focus moves to Daniel and Anne on September 23. The winner will receive a prize of 5,000 euros.

Show format: At the start of the challenge, Kretschmer pairs each contestant with two of his top decorating assistants along with three eye-catching items that fit the theme. The furniture pieces or decor items must be integrated into one room in the house or outdoor area, matching in form, color, style, and material. They have three hours to plan how they want to arrange the rooms and to handle online purchases and, if needed, to coordinate additional craftsmen. In the following three days, they can shop at stores and home improvement centers or work at home to construct and style. Yet an unexpected mid-episode challenge disrupts the contestants’ schedule. Kretschmer comments on how they perform and whether there are bonus points awarded.

Previously, in 2023, “Guidos Deko Queen” aired in prime time — back then as a celebrity special (available on RTL+. The most recent season of the daytime show ran until March of this year.
