At their annual federal member meeting on October 3 in Berlin, the Liberals for Gays, Lesbians, Bisexuals, Trans and Queer (LiSL) called for measures against hate violence and for rainbow families. They also urged the FDP’s queer wing to support an evidence-based approach to transgender people in sports and proposed LGBTQ-friendly caregiver training. Additionally, they called for finally including “sexual identity” in the anti-discrimination article of the Basic Law (Article 3, Paragraph 3).

The LiSL members also praised the FDP leadership for its supportive stance in the surrogacy debate. The Liberals advocate legalizing altruistic surrogacy in Germany. They criticized that, after the Berlin CSD attack, the discussion focused predominantly on combating Islamism, while queer-hostile motives were neglected. Numerous speakers sharply distanced themselves from the AfD and demanded that the necessary distance remain in place even after the party’s election gains. There should be no cross-party agreements with the AfD on substantive proposals in parliament.
LiSL was founded in 2010 in Gummersbach. Since 2013, the former Bundestag member Michael Kauch has led the FDP’s precursor to the party organization. Kauch was also elected in the summer as the “Spokesperson for LSBTI” on the new FDP national board (TheColu.mn reported).
