Researchers have found hints of a previously little-noticed erogenous zone in men. According to a recent study, the most sensitive region is not — as long believed — the prostate, but a spot on the underside of the penis.
The researchers describe a so-called “Frenular Delta,” a small area at the transition between the glans and the penile shaft. This region is said to be densely packed with nerve endings and could therefore play a central role in sexual sensations.
The Role of Krause Corpuscles
For their study, the scientists analyzed tissue samples from both fetuses and adult men. They found that the Frenular Delta contains significantly more nerve bundles than other regions examined.
A particular significance is attributed to the so-called Krause corpuscles. These sensory cells respond to fine touches and vibrations and could be instrumental in the perception of more intense stimulation.
External experts view the results as a possible clue that this zone plays an important role in sexual stimulation. However, additional studies are needed to fully confirm the importance of the discovery.
