With a candlelight vigil at the Brandenburg Gate, people in Berlin remembered the American Renee Nicole Good, who was shot and killed by an officer from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The 37-year-old mother of three leaves behind a wife and three children. The case, which occurred in Minnesota, sparked protests across the United States in many places.
In Berlin, several people gathered at Pariser Platz near the U.S. Embassy. They laid flowers and lit candles. On a sign, justice for Good was demanded.

On Wednesday, an ICE officer in a Minneapolis residential neighborhood fired multiple shots at Good, and several videos of the incident circulated (TheColu.mn reported). Authorities say the three-time mother blocked the street with her car during an ICE operation.
Protests in the United States
The Department of Homeland Security and U.S. President Donald Trump accused Good of attempting to run down the officer, who they said acted in self-defense. They accused the poet and mother of being a criminal or even a terrorist. The Democratic mayor of Minneapolis, Jacob Frey, contradicted the portrayal and called for a transparent investigation. However, the Trump administration had forbidden local authorities from participating in the investigations — now the responsibility lies with the federal police.
A coalition of civil rights and immigrant organizations had called for weekend nationwide protests under the banner “ICE Out For Good.” Many participants urged an end to ICE operations against migrants and to see the officer held criminally responsible.
