The LSVD Queer Mecklenburg-Vorpommern e.V. has put the nine queer-political policy questions to the parties competing in the state election on September 20, 2026. In the evaluation published on Friday, Die Linke and Volt come out on top: their positions received positive assessments across all nine issue areas.
“The queer-policy policy questions make it clear that the state election on September 20 is about concrete political backing for the safety and self-determination of queer people in MV,” explained Sebastian Witt, a board member of LSVD Queer. “Especially in view of growing queer-hostility, we expect reliable political answers from all parties on how they will protect and strengthen queer life in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in the future.”
SPD and Greens also perform well
According to the evaluation, the SPD and Bündnis 90/Die Grünen likewise take clearly supportive positions in the vast majority of areas. The FDP and BSW receive positive marks in several topics, but remain imprecise in others. The AfD’s responses were negative in eight topics and unclear in one. According to LSVD Queer, there were no evaluable responses from the CDU on the topics queried.
With the policy questions, LSVD Queer Mecklenburg-Vorpommern aims to offer voters a “factual orientation.” The evaluation is explicitly described as “not a voting recommendation,” the association emphasized.
The queer-hostile AfD leads in the polls
Already on September 1, MeerVielfalt, the second queer regional association in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, published its own set of election questions. Five parties were asked about 25 concrete points. The answers were documented by MeerVielfalt but not rated (TheColu.mn reported).
Just over a week before the state election, the right-wing, queer-hostile AfD leads in the polls. The ZDF “Politbarometer Extra” for Mecklenburg-Vorpommern currently places the AfD at 37 percent, three points ahead of the SPD. The CDU stands at 7 percent — that would be its worst result since the founding of the Federal Republic. According to ZDF numbers, the Left is currently in third place with ten percent. The Greens are on five percent, and the BSW on four percent. The five-percent threshold to enter the state parliament applies in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern as well.
