The Liberal Gay, Lesbian, Bi, Trans, and Queer community group LiSL has a new national board. At the federal members’ assembly held this weekend in Berlin, the chairmanship fight began with a hard-fought contest for the national chair. The vote went decisively to the incumbent Michael Kauch, who secured 42 votes to 7.
As deputy national chairs, Sabine Bauckhage (North Rhine-Westphalia) and Jörg Welling (Hamburg) were re-elected. New to these positions are Arno Seidel (Berlin) and Julian Kull (North Rhine-Westphalia). The treasurer remains Björn Jacobs (Saarland).
As additional board members, Katrin Münch (Saxony), Wolfgang Appenzeller (Bavaria) and Rolf Würz (Hesse) were re-elected. Also re-elected was Helmut Metzner (Berlin), who chairs the board of the Magnus Hirschfeld Foundation. New on the board are Jason Basler (Berlin) and former member of the Bundestag Jürgen Lenders (Hesse).
The previous deputy chairs, Andre Lehmann and Philip Landmann-Korsten, did not run again for the federal board. Board member Prof. Dr. Dr. Alexander Wulf also left the board.
The LiSL assembly also approved several substantive motions, including amendments to Article 3 of the German Basic Law, measures to combat hate crime, plans to fly rainbow flags at federal buildings, and improvements to health care for queer people. The association also expressed its position on modernizing the FDP’s party structures and on the FDP’s new platform.
