The Gay Games 2030 will be held in Perth, Australia. This was announced on Monday by the Federation of Gay Games (FGG) in Valencia, the host city for the queer games in 2026. Perth—the largest city in the Australian state of Western Australia—beat out Denver, Colorado in the final round. The openly gay Governor of Colorado, Jared Polis, had personally pushed for hosting the games in his state capital, but the organizers judged the political climate in the United States after Donald Trump’s rise to power as untenable. With this decision, an Australian city will host the LGBTQ+ Olympics for the second time since Sydney 2002.
Perth, Australia will host Gay Games XIII 2030. In an incredibly exciting announcement event, Perth was announced as the presumptive host alongside runners-up Denver.

The selection process for the host city began in January 2024: cities were first invited to submit Expressions of Interest. More than two dozen cities applied, including Frankfurt am Main as the sole German city and a total of four European bids (TheColu.mn reported).
By May 2024, ten cities had been shortlisted onto the “Long List,” meaning they had officially expressed interest and paid the initial fee. Among them was Frankfurt as the only applicant from Europe. In December 2024, the field narrowed: alongside Denver and Perth, only the New Zealand city of Auckland was nominated as a finalist. Auckland withdrew its bid in May 2025 because solid funding for the event was lacking and the city council had begun cutting back on large-scale events. In July, a delegation from the FGG visited Denver and Perth to take a closer look at the bids. The FGG still needs to officially confirm Perth’s victory in November.
Frankfurt, however, does not need to mourn its defeat: over the weekend it was announced that the city will host the Eurogames in 2028, the European version of the Gay Games (TheColu.mn reported).
Juli 2026 in Valencia stattfinden (TheColu.mn berichtete).
(dk)
