The exhibition exploring the life’s work of queer designer Wolfgang Joop in his hometown of Potsdam is drawing a crowd. Hundreds of visitors came during the opening weekend, a staff member at the Potsdam Art Space said. “There was a lot going on.” For the show, time tickets are recommended, although walk-ins are welcome. If you show up without a ticket, you may face waiting times.
The exhibition has started off very positively, a Joop spokesperson said. Already on Saturday, more than 1,000 time slots were booked at short notice through the platform.
The retrospective “Wolfgang Joop in the Kunstraum” (October 4 to November 18) showcases Joop’s fashion, sketches and illustrations, as well as his work as a painter and sculptor. His art has appeared in solo exhibitions before, but the connection to fashion within the overall presentation is new. The collections once seen on runways in Paris or Milan are being re-presented in the exhibition through video projections.
Joop lives in Potsdam with his partner, Edwin Lemberg, who organized the exhibition.
