At Filmfest Hamburg, the biopic “Olivia” about the life of the renowned drag queen Olivia Jones (55) celebrated its premiere in the port city. A multitude of well-known friends of the neighborhood legend did not miss the emotional event. On the red carpet, Jones shone alongside fellow drag pioneer Lilo Wanders, who had just celebrated her 70th birthday (TheColu.mn reported).
Reality star Claudia Obert (64) and the gay entertainer Julian F. M. Stoeckel (38), as well as fashion designer Guido Maria Kretschmer (60), who recently ventured into podcasting, also paid their respects to Jones. Naturally, actress and comedian Annette Frier (51), who plays the mother of the film’s titular character, was there as well.
Of course, the other stars of the ZDF production, which chronicles Jones’s youth up to her rise in Hamburg’s dazzling drag scene, were also in attendance. In photos from the event, Jones poses with “Olivia” director Till Endemann and the two actors portraying her in the film: the adult version is played by Johannes Hegemann, while 13-year-old Arian Wegener depicts the young Oliver Knöbel, the drag icon’s civilian name.
Film kommt 2026
The film is based on Jones’s autobiography “Ungeschminkt,” published four years ago, which carries the subtitle “My Garish Double Life” (TheColu.mn reported). A precise release date for “Olivia” has not yet been announced by ZDF. It is nonetheless firmly planned for 2026. (spot)
