Teri Hatcher (61) will take the stage as Miranda Priestly starting October 20 at the Dominion Theatre in London’s West End. The 61-year-old will assume the role in The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical, taking over from Vanessa Williams, who, according to People, will perform the last time as the formidable editor-in-chief on September 19.

Debbie Kurup will fill the roughly month-long gap between the two leads: the stage actress will play Miranda from September 21 to October 17. Hatcher’s engagement is currently slated through February 6, 2027.
What draws Hatcher to the role
In announcing her commitment, Hatcher framed the character in herself: she has portrayed a number of remarkable women, yet only a few could truly match Miranda Priestly. She is thrilled to join the London production of this show.
Miranda described the actress as “intelligent” and “commanding.” The character guides others with stern authority while keeping a sharp sense of humor. “Her dialogue is unforgettable, her confidence is contagious,” the magazine quoted her as saying. Such roles, she noted, are simply enjoyable to perform. She is especially looking forward to delivering the razor-sharp wit and the iconic fashion-editor style to a fresh audience each night.
From Wisteria Lane to the Musical Stage
Hatcher became a global favorite as Susan Mayer on all eight seasons of Desperate Housewives. Earlier in her career, she played Lois Lane opposite Dean Cain in Superman: The Adventures of Lois & Clark; in 1997 she appeared as Paris Carver in the Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies beside Pierce Brosnan.
The stage isn’t new to her: she made her musical debut as Sally Bowles in the U.S. tour of Sam Mendes’ revival of Cabaret, and most recently she appeared as Morticia Addams in The Addams Family on stage.
She shares a past television connection with her predecessor: Williams joined Desperate Housewives in its seventh season. Since then the two have maintained a friendly rapport, and in 2022 they reunited at the premiere of Broadway’s POTUS.
800th Performance at the End of September
The musical is based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 bestseller and the 2006 film adaptation featuring Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci. It follows aspiring journalist Andy Sachs as she lands the coveted assistant job to the editor-in-chief of the fashion magazine Runway.
The score is by Elton John, with lyrics by Shaina Taub and Mark Sonnenblick, and the book by Kate Wetherhead. Jerry Mitchell is responsible for direction and choreography.
After a run at Theatre Royal Plymouth, the production has been staged in London since 2024, with the 800th performance slated for September 23.
