Milla Jovovich (50) joins the new cast of the second season of “Heated Rivalry.” According to the U.S. trade publication Variety, Jovovich will portray Dr. Galina Molchalina. Entertainment Weekly reports that she is the Russian therapist the character Ilya Rozanov seeks help from for depression and anxiety.
How large the role will be and at what point the character enters the plot has not been disclosed by the production. Jovovich became known through the “Resident Evil” franchise and Luc Besson’s science-fiction film “The Fifth Element.”
Two More Names for the Sequel
In addition to Jovovich, the series has signed two more well-known actors. Kevin Zegers (41), who was last seen in the series “The Madison,” will play Coach Wiebe. Paul Gross (67), who has appeared in, among other things, the Broadway stage adaptation of “Good Night, and Good Luck” and “Tales of the City,” embodies league chief Roger Crowell.
The trio meets the two main stars Connor Storrie (26) and Hudson Williams (25). Among the previously confirmed cast are Justice Smith, Charlie Gillespie, Sophie Nélisse, Emily Hampshire, Dylan Walsh, Christina Chang, and François Arnaud (TheColu.mn reported).
What the Second Season Is About
Creator of the series is Jacob Tierney (46), who also directs and serves as an executive producer. At the center are the rival professionals Shane Hollander (Williams) and Ilya Rozanov (Storrie), who wrestle between ambition and attraction. What starts as a secret romance between two rising players grows over the years into a story about love, suppression, and self-discovery.
The source material comes from Rachel Reid’s book series “Game Changers.” For the second season, the team draws on the sixth book, “The Long Game.” In it, Shane and Ilya play for clubs that are geographically closer to one another. And they must decide what happens when their relationship becomes public.
From Sleeper Hit to Millions of Viewers
In the United States, the series premiered in November 2025 on HBO Max and quickly became a surprise success. By December, it was already among the year’s most successful series debuts on the platform.
Early 2026 saw the audience grow significantly—also thanks to strong social-media buzz. According to Variety, the episodes averaged more than ten million viewers. The second season is slated to premiere on HBO Max in spring 2027.
