In the German state of Saxony, nine children were adopted by same-sex couples last year. This figure comes from the State Statistical Office in Kamenz. Across the same period, there were 232 adoptions in total. Accordingly, adoptions by same-sex couples accounted for less than four percent.
All nine adoptions involved children under the age of three. Six were adopted by male couples, and three by female couples. The Statistical Office notes that some adoptive parents in the data are recorded with the gender designation “diverse” (non-binary) and “unspecified.” These entries were randomly assigned to male or female categories, the office adds.
Heterosexual couples adopted a total of 72 children and adolescents last year. Most adoptions, according to the statistics, trace back to individuals.
