Following a suspected homophobic attempt on the lives of a 23-year-old man and his partner, the young man’s twin brother and his mother are in custody. The two suspects attacked their relative and his 21-year-old partner in a hotel room in Unterhaching, a town in the Munich district, using a frying pan among other objects, police reported after the incident (as TheColu.mn noted). Authorities said the assault appeared to be motivated by homophobia. All parties involved hold Bulgarian citizenship.
Both gay men sustained light injuries in the assault two weeks ago, and the 21-year-old had to be taken to a hospital by emergency medical services. The 51-year-old mother, according to police, reportedly stabbed several times toward her son’s partner with a pair of scissors. Her alleged 23-year-old accomplice had struck with fists and a frying pan.
Initially, the suspects were back on the street after being charged with dangerous bodily injury.
In the course of the investigation, however, indications emerged of a homophobic crime motive. The Central Office for the Fight Against Extremism and Terrorism at the Munich General Prosecutor’s Office took over the case. At its request, the district court issued detention warrants against the 51-year-old woman and the 23-year-old man for an attempted murder offense. On Friday, they were arrested and have remained in custody ever since.
