Leading star Hudson Williams from the hit series “Heated Rivalry” has spoken out with sharp resolve against, among other things, “homophobic, biphobic” and other hate comments. Those who spread such remarks should not call themselves “fans,” Williams wrote on Monday, local time, in the online service Instagram. The series star also criticized ageist and misogynistic comments. “None of you need your hate-filled ‘love,'” he added.
In “Heated Rivalry” the plot centers on the secret relationship between a Canadian and a Russian hockey player. Online, homophobic and racist comments tied to the internationally successful series are frequently found. Williams portrays the Canadian Shane Hollander.
Several of Williams’s colleagues shared his Instagram post, including actor François Arnaud and the Canadian author Rachel Reid, who wrote the book series on which the series is based.
Variety magazine named “Heated Rivalry” the biggest surprise in the streaming world of 2025. The show’s cast has repeatedly spoken out about what they view as a toxic fan culture.
