Lucy Liu Sparks Fans’ Excitement for The Devil Wears Prada 2

Lucy Liu (57) is keeping a low profile—and in doing so, she’s only fueling the anticipation for The Devil Wears Prada 2. At Time’s Women of the Year gala in New York, People asked the actress to describe the long-awaited sequel in a single word. The answer: impossible. “I would say it will be everything everyone hopes for,” Liu said.

The star, of course, knows what she’s talking about: Liu is part of the high-caliber ensemble for the sequel to the cult favorite, which will hit German cinemas on April 30.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 also reunites the original cast in front of the camera. Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Stanley Tucci, and Emily Blunt are all back — joined by new faces like Liu. For the Kill Bill actress, the invitation into this circle is clearly more than just another film shoot.

Already last September, Liu spoke openly about her joy in the project at “Through Her Lens: The Tribeca Chanel Women’s Filmmaker Program” in New York City. “I had a wonderful time, and it was really fun. It’s always nice to be part of something that excites people and that’s connected to fashion.”

Fashion as a political and playful theme

What she finds most fascinating about the material, Liu summed up: “Fashion can be so much — it can be political, and it can be playful. To me, that’s what gives a film like this its appeal, which is more classic than you might think.” A statement that shows the actress isn’t just excited about the role, but about the theme itself as well.

In addition to Liu, Kenneth Branagh and Patrick Brammall join as the respective love interests of Streep’s and Hathaway’s characters. The cast is also reinforced by Simone Ashley, B.J. Novak, Justin Theroux, Lady Gaga, and Pauline Chalamet. Adrian Grenier, who played Andy’s friend Nate in the original, will not be back.

Behind the camera, the plan relies on proven talent: director David Frankel and screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, who steered the first film, are back on board. Producer Wendy Finerman completes the original team. (spot)
