Four opening ceremonies kicked off the Olympic Winter Games Friday evening, with the main show in Milan and additional celebrations in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Livigno, and Predazzo. At the center of the festivities stood the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium in Milan, the fashion capital’s landmark venue, where Mariah Carey, 56, delivered a high-profile performance in the early part of the evening.
Mariah Carey Shines in White
Carey electrified the crowd with a bilingual pair of performances. She opened with an Italian-language rendition of the timeless classic “Volare” (Nel Blu Dipinto Di Blu) by Domenico Modugno. She then switched to English to present her own track “Nothing Is Impossible” from her most recent studio album, released in 2025. The superstar demonstrated, with apparent ease, how she can reach even the highest vocal peaks.

Nobody watching could miss the complete package: not just the voice, but the look. Carey appeared in a plunging white-silver sequin gown that drew every eye toward the stage. A long train and a feathered cape added a dramatic final touch to an already striking entrance.
Laura Pausini Sings the Italian National Anthem
Carey wasn’t the only star to take the spotlight. Moments after her set, Laura Pausini, 51, took the stage and delivered the Italian national anthem. The first segment of the celebration culminated with a large-scale dance performance, after which the athletes began their march into the arena. In the run-up to the procession, it had been announced that Germany would be represented by flag-bearers Katharina Schmid, a 29-year-old ski jumper, and Leon Draisaitl, a 30-year-old ice hockey player.
