In Bremen, gay pornography is more popular than anywhere else in Germany: according to a Pride Month–timed survey published by Pornhub, the world’s most successful adult portal, people in the city-state watch 45 percent more erotic films featuring men than the national average. Berlin trails far behind with a 29 percent uptick, followed by Saxony-Anhalt at 13 percent and the Saarland at 9 percent. The lowest interest in gay porn is shown by residents of Hamburg (-10 percent) and by people in Baden-Württemberg and Thuringia (each -8 percent).
The trends vary across the country as well, Pornhub, a Canadian company, noted further. For instance, people in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern click on so-called porn “castings” more than three times as often as the national average; in this category, performers are often relatively new and still a bit awkward. In the porn capital of Bremen, people gravitate toward topics that are more or less academic and college-themed, while in Germany’s most populous state, North Rhine-Westphalia, the bear category enjoys a particularly high profile.
The favorite performer for Germans, according to Pornhub, is Canadian Malik Delgaty, who is also the world’s most popular male performer in gay porn. He had already topped Pornhub’s global list last year.
By contrast, in the United Kingdom and Italy the top spot goes to the androgenous porn star Foxy Alex from Panama, a ranking that lands him only sixth in Germany.
Overall, as in the previous year, the Twink category remains the most popular in Germany. Twinks dominate a large portion of Europe and parts of South America in the popularity charts. In the United States, and in much of Africa, the Black category sits at the top, while in Canada—as well as in Brazil and Thailand—people often search for big penises.
An interesting note from the analysis is that globally only 53 percent of gay porn consumers are men; the remaining 47 percent of traffic comes from women.
Young people are more active on Pornhub: half of all views come from the 18–34 age group. Only eleven percent of viewers are 65 or older. The preferences of the younger and older generations diverge: while roughly 18- to 24-year-olds mainly seek tattooed men or military-themed porn, those over 65 tend to prefer vintage porn and the classic blow job.
