As part of Darmstadt’s Christopher Street Day (CSD) celebration, State Social Minister Heike Hofmann (SPD) on Saturday handed over a grant notice for 75,000 euros to the LGBTQ+ association Vielbunt. The organization serves as the lead agency for the LSBT*IQ network hub for the South Hesse region and will receive the funds for the funding period from April 2026 through the end of March 2027.
“CSDs are places of diversity, freedom, and togetherness. The fact that such a space was recently overshadowed in Berlin by brutal violence deeply shook me. My heartfelt condolences go out to all those affected,” Hofmann said. She also voiced concern about rising anti-queer hostility: “We will confront attacks on queer visibility in Hesse with determination. Together with the police and the public prosecutor’s office, we will ensure that anti-queer crimes in Hesse are prosecuted vigorously. Because homophobia and hate crime are assaults on the very foundations of our democracy. And we intend to counteract this also through the support of the work of the network office,” the minister added.
“At the Darmstadt CSD, according to police, at least 6,000 people demonstrated on Saturday for self-determination and visibility. The motto was: “Show yourself — for all of us.”
