The Cologne Queer March is receiving prominent backing from a broad lineup of well-known figures across media, culture, entertainment, and activism. Earlier this week, entertainer Carolin Kebekus urged followers on Instagram to join the Cologne Queer March on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at 2 p.m. local time. The event is the Rhine region’s answer to the Islamist- and queer-hostile terror attack that targeted the CSD Berlin.
“The Cologne Queer March matters because after the attack on the Berlin CSD we shouldn’t act as if nothing happened. If people are afraid to attend the CSD or to hold hands with their partner, this isn’t just an issue for the queer community—it concerns all of us,” said moderator and actor Lukas Sauer. “Leonie Löwenherz, a Spiegel-bestseller author and historian, finds the march important, ‘because we now have to show that we will not be bullied nor instrumentalized.’”
Journalist and host Donya Farahani backs the Cologne Queer March, saying, “because attacks on queer people are attacks on our democracy, on human rights. We will not accept that.” Cabaret performer Fatih Çevikkollu is also joining as a supporter, “because society is the togetherness of differences. We stand together.”

Approximately 2,000 participants registered
The Cologne Queer March kicks off on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at Deutzer Werft and proceeds to Friesenplatz. Police estimates put the number of participants at about 2,000. On the main stage, Cologne Green Party member of parliament Sven Lehmann, Julia Monro of LSVD+ and Bonyad Bastanfar from the #NieWiederLeise campaign will speak. Singer Marcella Rockefeller will perform her song “Liebe ist alles” (Love is Everything).
“The Cologne Queer March stands against every form of extremism, whether Islamist or far-right,” organizers said in a press release. “It calls on the federal government, states and municipalities to implement measures that safeguard and strengthen queer structures and queer life, so we can confront the growing hostility toward queer people in our society.”
