Nuremberg Pride Draws Record Attendance

At the Christopher Street Day (CSD) in Nuremberg, more people than ever before joined the march through downtown. According to the police, more than 20,000 people linked arms with the parade on Saturday. The previous year, police estimated about 17,500 participants.
After the Berlin CSD attack two weeks earlier, Bavaria’s Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU) had the security concept for the Nuremberg event reviewed. In that attack, a woman was killed.
Nuremberg’s mayor Marcus König (CSU) had previously commented on Instagram: “We are an open, diverse, and tolerant society. I will always fight for it—and against every form of discrimination and hostility toward people.”
With the CSD, the organizers also wanted to send a message against the rise of the far right in society. It carried the motto “Nuremberg loves.” When the festival circuit ends on Sunday evening, around 80 events such as concerts, panel discussions, or readings will have taken place.
