A 42-year-old man threatened several passengers on the RE 6 regional express between Leipzig and Chemnitz on Sunday afternoon and, in the process, insulted mainly homosexual travelers and foreign passengers. This was reported by the Chemnitz federal police on Monday.
The man repeatedly issued threats around 2:40 p.m., saying things like “I’m going to kill you all” and “you should be shot.” At the time, the train was near Burgstädt. “These insulting words were directed primarily at homosexual individuals and foreign residents,” the police said in a statement. Three men, aged 24 and 26, felt intimidated and threatened as a result.
Roving officers from Chemnitz Central Station were informed of the incident and were able to detain the suspect shortly afterward at a gas station in Burgstädt. The man is now under investigation on charges of threats, incitement to hatred, and insult.
