Ahead of Frankfurt Pride: Injured in Anti-LGBTQ Attack

An anti-LGBTQ+ assault in Frankfurt left a man injured. The 62-year-old was struck at night with a glass bottle in the All Saints Quarter, according to police.
The unidentified attacker had reportedly already knocked a glass bottle onto the ground near a kiosk and approached the victim when he asked what was going on. The assailant named the victim’s sexual orientation—the man was reportedly walking hand in hand with his partner—and struck again with another bottle.
The 62-year-old sustained facial injuries. The suspected attacker is said to have fled toward Allerheiligen Gate, and the police describe him as: “male; about 25 years old; 175-180 cm tall; slim build; short, curly hair; white tracksuit”. Police are asking witnesses for information at the phone number (069) 755-10 100.
Earlier in the night, a group threw glass bottles at the entrance area of a queer nightlife bar on Alte Gasse. No one was injured, but damage occurred to a nearby glass pane. Police were able to catch a 21-year-old fleeing man, who now faces charges of property damage.
Frankfurt is currently hosting Christopher Street Day (CSD); today a queer pride parade was expected to move through the city center. More than 10,000 participants were anticipated. At Römer, the rainbow flag was to be raised.
