In the early hours of Wednesday, the rainbow flag that the city of Delmenhorst had raised for Pride Month was stolen from the Market Square, and the flagpole used for the banner was damaged. This was reported by, among others, the “Delmenhorster Kreisblatt”.
“We deeply regret and strongly condemn the theft of the flag and see it as a stark sign of the growing anti-queer hostility in our society,” stated the CSD Delmenhorst in a message posted on Facebook. “The incident demonstrates why we need events like the CSD: even a peaceful symbol of love and tolerance is exposed to such risks.”
The CSD association, according to its own statements, is already working with the city to arrange a replacement for the stolen Pride flag. The incident has also been reported to the police.
The second CSD in Delmenhorst will take place on September 19, 2026. At the first Pride demonstration last year, more than 2,000 people participated.
