Six-Pack Parade: The Hype Surrounding ‘Off Campus’

Few series are currently generating as much buzz on Instagram and TikTok as “Off Campus”—a show packed with chiseled male abs. Since May 13, the series starring Ella Bright (19) and Belmont Cameli (28) has been available on Prime Video in the lead roles.
The fairly risqué show delivered one of the strongest debuts in Amazon’s streaming history. In the first twelve days alone, the series drew 36 million viewers, according to industry trade publication Hollywood Reporter.
Young women in particular tune in: According to Prime, “Off Campus” posted the best results among all Prime Video series for women aged 18 to 34. The platform also streams the German private-school hit “Maxton Hall.”
Some fans watch the eight episodes again and again. Here’s what you should know about the hype around “Off Campus”:

What is “Off Campus” and what is it about?

“Off Campus” — translated roughly as “Outside the University Grounds” — is a college series based on the eponymous Young Adult book series. The Canadian bestseller series by Elle Kennedy (44) is a mega-hit on “BookTok” and follows a hockey team along with the women on their side, if you want to put it a bit old-school. By the way, this book series predates the works of Rachel Reid, on which the similarly hyped hockey romance “Heated Rivalry” is built.
What is the focus of the first season?
The first season centers on the love story between a music student, the quiet songwriter Hannah Wells (Ella Bright)—who actually hates hockey—and the playboy and hockey star Garrett Graham (Belmont Cameli) at the fictional Briar University. The motto, in a sense, is: opposites attract.
How is it set up?
After an awkward encounter—Hannah works as a cleaner and runs into the naked Graham in the locker room—the two strike a deal. The arrangement: philosophy tutoring in exchange for a fake boyfriend. They pretend to be a couple to make the guy Hannah actually likes jealous. How will that unfold…
How much time will it take me?
The first season comprises eight episodes, each about 50 minutes. If you wanted to binge the whole season in one sitting, you’d be looking at roughly 6 hours and 50 minutes.
What topics are most talked about in season one?
In Episode 4 there’s a scene that fans describe as especially steamy and cringe-worthy. Hannah and Garrett have sex by pleasuring themselves for each other to reach orgasm.
How sexy is the series overall?
The show even features men discussing how to most effectively bring women to climax. That probably wouldn’t have happened on older TV. There are several nude scenes, primarily showing breasts and buttocks, but in Episode 8 the locker room scene even touches on penises (that’s literally stated). Episodes 6 and 8 are recommended for 18+, while most episodes are suitable for ages 12 and up.

Is the series creatively produced?
The show relies heavily on cuts and is clearly designed for a social-media audience. The screen is sometimes split or quad-split—that keeps things breezy.
Did the series spark real-life trends?
Beyond the romance, the look of Allie (Mika Abdalla), Hannah’s best friend, has drawn attention. Her fluffy Curtain Bangs hairstyle—a fringe like a curtain—has become a fan favorite. “Allie Haircut” and “Allie Bangs” were already trending terms by 2026. Additionally, the series’ soundtrack has been a major talking point.
Numerous bands and artists gained traction thanks to their appearance in the show. The best example is an indie band: “Do you know The Beaches? Their Coachella set will change your life,” Hannah tells Garrett in Episode 2.
Will there be a second season?
The first season is based on the first novel in Elle Kennedy’s “Off Campus” book series (“The Deal”—The Deal, released in 2015). The series spans five books. Amazon already ordered a second season before the first had even released. It is slated to begin filming this summer.

What will season two be about?
Like Netflix’s romantic hit “Bridgerton,” every “Off Campus” season centers on a different couple. Based on the book source, season two would feature Logan and Grace, the main couple from Book 2 “The Mistake.” But the series skips a book: according to showrunner Louisa Levy, Allie and Dean, the leads from Book 3 “The Score,” will be the central couple of the second season.
What makes it different from earlier college series?
In a seemingly wholesome Boy Meets Girl fantasy, the show tackles social issues with unexpectedly unflinching candor. This includes topics such as family trauma, domestic violence, date-rape drugs, and rape or sexual assault, as well as toxic masculinity.

How are female characters portrayed?

The women in “Off Campus” are more complex characters, not simply scheming nag-types chasing the coolest guy as older American college stories often did.
What makes the male characters tick?
Stale male bravado is confronted and interrogated. Garrett, for example, is in trouble with Hannah after he lays out a brutal hit on an opponent on the ice—allegedly to protect her. She makes it clear she didn’t ask for it and doesn’t want that kind of protection.
Is the series diverse or queer?
Queerness plays only a minor role in “Off Campus.” Even beyond sexuality, the show isn’t particularly diverse: almost all performers are white. Yet the series conveys a “Love is Love” mentality that seems common among much of Gen Z. In the show’s promos, the male cast members often cuddle with one another. A genuine bromance, really—almost as if the actors copied the dynamic from the leads of “Heated Rivalry” (Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie).
