Police in Jena have been investigating since Sunday evening a 41-year-old man on suspicion of insulting behavior and indecent exposure. According to preliminary findings, at 9:22 p.m. the suspect boarded a tram at the Kieshügel stop together with a group of people. Onboard, he repeatedly directed homophobic insults at two male passengers aged 17 and 22. In the course of the incident, the suspect exposed his genital area and pointed it toward the victims, continuing to make derogatory remarks. The responding police officers were able to take the man into custody. A breath-alcohol test yielded a reading of 2.38 per mille. Investigations have been opened against the man who is already known to authorities. In addition, efforts were initiated to secure any possible video footage from surveillance cameras.
