Cirque du Soleil has, for the first time, created a permanent show in Europe: “ALIZÉ” is designed specifically for Berlin and will be staged at the Theater am Potsdamer Platz. The production aims not only to showcase spectacular acrobatics but also to develop a new form of live entertainment. The creators call the genre “Acromagic” — a blend of acrobatic excellence, magical effects, and contemporary stage technology.
At its center lies a surreal journey into a world where the familiar rules of physics seem suspended. Whether hovering objects, disappearing bodies, or performers gliding seemingly weightlessly through the space: “ALIZÉ” works with moments of wonder without fully dissolving them. Mastery of the body, illusion, and technical precision weave together so seamlessly that the boundaries between circus, magic, and theater blur.
The theater becomes a dream world
The Theater am Potsdamer Platz is transformed into a dream world for the show, acting as a portal to another dimension. The stage opens into a poetic universe where the invisible becomes visible and the impossible becomes imaginable. The protagonists of the show move through rooms full of wonders, secrets, and surprising twists. Time and again, images emerge that oscillate between breathtaking artistry and astonishing illusion.
“ALIZÉ” is Cirque du Soleil’s 54th original production and the first European residency for the Canadian company. Even before its premiere, the Berlin production drew national and international attention. According to the organizers, nearly 300,000 tickets have already been sold for the show.
With the fixed venue in Berlin, Cirque du Soleil is betting on a long-term presence in Europe. “ALIZÉ” combines the troupe’s signature visual opulence with a storytelling approach that relies less on traditional plot and more on atmosphere, transformation, and illusion. The result is an evening that turns the Theater am Potsdamer Platz into a place of unreality—and expands Berlin with a major international stage production. (dd/pm)
