On the show “First Dates — A Table for Two” things are about to get very queer again on Monday evening: 48-year-old nonbinary person Janboris from Mainz is set up with 47-year-old transgender man Jan from Weinheim near Heidelberg. The episode airs at 6 p.m. on Vox. It’s already available to paying subscribers on RTL+.
In the matchmaking program, it’s also explained: “There is more than male and female, and I am an example of that,” says Janboris on the show. Jan explains that he transitioned seven years ago. He also says that his four children call him “Mom.” “When I’m called by my kids on the street, people think: ‘Okay that’s the gay guy who’s playing the mom,'” says Jan. He is basically “the mom with a beard.”
Is there chemistry between them?
Jan also explained that what mattered less to him about the date was gender than what happens in a person’s eyes, heart, and mind. Janboris and Jan hit it off right away. However, it becomes clear that there isn’t a spark between them. They decide not to pursue a second date. But they want to stay connected as friends: Janboris plans to attend the queer Stammtisch that Jan started.

On “First Dates,” host and restaurateur Roland Trettl has been pairing up couples for seven and a half years — weekdays at 6 p.m. The show also frequently features queer participants (TheColu.mn reported). Because the program is doing well, there are spin-offs like “First Dates Hotel” and “Celebrity First Date.” Soap star Lars Steinhöfel, after his breakup from his fiancé Dominik Schmitt, stopped by Roland Trettl’s show twice — but without dating success. Also bisexual Germany’s Next Top Model contestant Aminata Sanogo and the gay former GZSZ star Raphael Schneider sought the love of their lives this year with the help of the show (TheColu.mn reported).
