“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” Star Wenne Alton Davis Dies

Screen star Wenne Alton Davis has died. According to People, the U.S. magazine, the 60-year-old passed away Monday evening in New York City after being struck by a car. The crash occurred around 9 p.m. at the corner of West 53rd Street and Broadway in the busy Midtown Manhattan neighborhood.

Davis described herself as queer and used both the female pronouns “she/her” and the nonbinary version “they/them.”

Severe head injuries

According to the New York Police Department, a 61-year-old driver in a black Cadillac XT6 was preparing to turn left when he struck Davis. The actress, whose legal name was Wendy Davis, sustained serious head and body injuries, authorities told People.

Although emergency services arrived quickly and Davis was promptly taken to Mount Sinai West Hospital, all aid proved futile. The doctors were unable to save her, and she was pronounced dead. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and was not injured. Police had not made any arrests at this time, and the NYPD’s Highway District Collision Investigation Squad’s inquiry remains ongoing.

Davis had more than two decades of work in American film and television. She became known to a broader audience for her role in season five of the Amazon Prime hit series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, where she portrayed a police officer in 2023 alongside lead actress Rachel Brosnahan (35).

Her career, according to IMDb, began in 2004 with the short film “Ladies Room.” In the following years she appeared in numerous productions, including “Rescue Me” (2009), “Shame” (2011), “The Normal Heart” (2014), “American Odyssey” (2015), “Blindspot” (2019), “New Amsterdam” (2019) and “Girls5eva” (2022).
