More than a year after a homophobic attack, the Hamburg police are releasing a photo to help identify one of the suspects. The incident occurred in early August 2024 during Hamburg’s Christopher Street Day (CSD) celebrations.
The victim at the time was 23 years old. According to police, he and several unknown individuals assaulted him “in what is believed to be a homophobic motive” and injured him. According to the current state of the investigations, an unknown person arranged to meet the young man with the help of a dating portal in the St. Pauli district. There, the later suspect is said to have led the man first into a nearby driveway, where several apparent acquaintances of the suspect were present.
The victim attempted to escape
Believing that a physical attack was imminent, the 23-year-old fled back onto the roadway, but was overtaken and assaulted by the group without warning. The attackers inflicted injuries to his upper body and head. The young man managed to break away from his assailants, who then fled in an unknown direction.
Investigations conducted by the State Office of Criminal Police for State Security offenses (LKA 73) have so far not led to the identification of suspects. At the request of the public prosecutor, the district court has therefore issued a public appeal for help. The released photo, taken from the dating portal’s listing, shows one of the yet unidentified suspects.
Persons who can provide information about the suspect or his accomplices or who have observed anything relevant to this case are asked to contact the police tip line at (040) 4286-56789 or report to any police station.
