The eighteen-year-old Talia hails from an extraordinary family: The Underwoods guard the gate to the world of the dead, using their gifts to keep the balance between the living and the departed. As a medium, Talia helps the dead and their loved ones say goodbye. She otherwise has little patience for people. That changes when her classmate Emma asks for help.
Emma’s best friend is said to have died in an accident. Yet Emma believes there’s more to her death. Together the two set out to uncover the truth. Along the way, Talia and Emma grow closer and develop feelings that could put the entire Underwood family in grave danger.
Stories from personal queer experience
“Die Underwoods: Drowned in Shadows” (Amazon-Affiliate-Link ) is the opening installment of a new queer romantasy series by best-selling author Alicia Zett. The novel is published as a paperback with 512 pages. The limited edition with color edges and a character map costs 18 euros. There is also a digital edition and an audiobook.
Alicia Zett was born in 1996 and studied film. After college she decided to write novels instead of screenplays. On her social media channels under the name aliciazett, she engages with queer books, films, and series.
Zett writes books that she herself could have used in her youth. As an author who tells stories from her own queer experience, she wants to show with her stories that love exists in different forms and colors. In addition to queer relationships, she tackles topics that are close to her heart: mental health as well as her love of football, music, writing, and nature.

Her characters find themselves in situations where they can grow. At the same time, Zett emphasizes crafting her stories as cozy places and safe spaces. Several of her books have already appeared on Spiegel’s bestseller list.
The author lives on the outskirts of Cologne. Her daily life includes long walks, putting together book playlists, and extended conversations with her friends. (dd/pm)
