Prince Harry (42) could honor Princess Diana (1961-1997) in a particularly meaningful way. A British media report suggests there are talks about Harry releasing a documentary about Lady Di next year, timed to the 30th anniversary of her death. The Telegraph reports this.
Harry is reportedly in discussions about a corresponding documentary. However, nothing has been finalized yet. According to the report, Harry has already knocked on the doors of several friends and relatives to see if they would participate in such a project. He is said to have even asked his uncle Charles Spencer (62).
Endless Documentary Requests to Charles Spencer
Would Diana’s younger brother, who will publish his new book “Swan Song: Diana, My Sister” on September 22, be involved? In that work, he notes, per the Telegraph, that he would rather have written a book than participate in productions tied to the anniversary. Spencer fears these could follow a problematic agenda. He has turned down endless, repetitive requests for documentaries and wants to tell things as he remembers them—rather than following the agendas of TV producers he’ll never meet. With a project from Harry, though, he probably doesn’t need to worry about that. Diana’s younger son has spoken warmly about his mother many times. It’s unlikely the prince would portray her in a negative light.
New Documentary on Netflix?
If Harry does decide to move forward, the documentary would likely be produced by his production company Archewell Productions, in which his wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex (45), is also involved. The project could also land on Netflix.
The Sussexes have a so-called “First Look” deal with the streaming platform. This arrangement allows forthcoming productions to be secured by Netflix before they even hit the market, with Netflix getting the rights to release them ahead of others. For a Diana documentary in which Harry himself would have a hand, the odds that the streaming service would express interest are probably good. (spot)
