The number of anti-LGBTQ+ incidents has risen in Brandenburg. Last year, a total of 589 such attacks were recorded, according to the LGBTQ+-focused resource center “Andersartig.” The year before, it was around 500, markedly fewer.
The figures are, on the one hand, an expression of a further hardening of the situation, and on the other hand, should be interpreted against the backdrop of the expanded data base since 2024, the center said. By systematically including additional reporting channels, more incidents could be captured than in previous years.
With 111 cases, insults accounted for the largest portion. Following are property damage, threats, and bodily injuries. The center attributes 308 cases to a right-wing ideological background. 106 were linked to religious beliefs. In 54 cases, family conflicts were behind the incidents.
