Has AI written the action film “F1” starring Brad Pitt (62)? The openly lesbian Oscar-winning actress Jodie Foster (63) seems to be able to envision it, as she explained during an event at the Aspen Ideas Festival in Colorado, where the star spoke about artificial intelligence in the film industry.
“When we are able to govern AI in the long term in a consistent way, then yes, we will create things that reflect us, and we can improve things,” Foster said, adding: “Will we be able to master the technology? That particular technology for longer than a few years? I don’t know.”

Jodie Foster, who also works as a director and producer, was subsequently asked if she thinks AI could truly replace writers or actors. “We’re already doing that,” she replied in reference to actors. She explained that she often thinks of “films that already exist” that could have been created by AI. As an example, she cited Joseph Kosinski’s (52) film “F1” with Pitt in the lead.
“I mean that not in a demeaning way—how could I? After all, that film grossed millions of dollars.” But when she watches a film like “F1,” she thinks: It was “made by AI. Or perhaps not?” The structure, she noted, follows exactly what you learn in school. The actors deliver their lines just as they would have been written if a computer had drafted what would be appropriate for that era. And they managed to harness the technology to create something big and beautiful—though a large portion of the information likely comes from other sources.

Foster seemed to mention the film more as an example than to claim that “F1” was actually created by AI, The Hollywood Reporter notes about her remarks. The 2025 movie, produced by Formula 1 star Lewis Hamilton (41), was nominated for four Oscars, including Best Picture. It won an Oscar for Best Sound.
