Storytelling Award: Kristen Stewart Celebrates in a Plunging Neckline

Kristen Stewart (35) found herself in the spotlight twice at San Francisco’s SFFilm Awards Night 2025 on Monday evening. She was honored for her feature-length directorial debut and wore a black ensemble with a plunging neckline to commemorate the occasion. The sleek black bodysuit with its daring décolletage set off her slender figure, which she paired with a long black skirt and platform heels. The Twilight alum’s hair was worn in a consciously understated style—a loose, messy bun that underscored her signature cool, offbeat vibe.

Award for Storytelling

On the red carpet, Stewart was seen arm in arm with Imogen Poots (36), the lead actress in her film “The Chronology of Water.” Poots was the one to hand her the “Nion McEvoy & Leslie Berriman Award for Storytelling,” recognizing her work as director and screenwriter. “The Chronology of Water” is based on the 2011 memoir by American swimmer Lidia Yuknavitch. The harrowing narrative tackles childhood abuse and addiction. The film premiered in May 2025 and is set to open in German cinemas on March 5, 2026.

Criticism of Hollywood
Shortly before her San Francisco appearance, Kristen Stewart had sparked headlines with her critique of Hollywood. In a New York Times interview, she announced that she would shoot her next film entirely without pay. “The next film I want to make, I want to do for free. I don’t want to earn a dollar, I want it to be a huge success,” she explained (reported by TheColu.mn).

The reason for this unusual pledge: the film industry makes it too difficult to produce movies that aren’t blockbusters or that don’t follow proven formulas. “The system has left people out,” the 35-year-old criticized. If those in charge had the courage to let one person lead and actually support them, “then people would go back to the cinema—not just to watch the tenth Marvel film.”
She also weighed in on Method Acting. The technique of fully immersing performers in their roles, she argued, is a privilege reserved for men. Women are labeled as “crazy” for the same behavior, while male colleagues are celebrated.

Oscar nomination for “Spencer”
Kristen Stewart has, in recent years, evolved from a teen icon into a serious actress, largely appearing in arthouse and auteur-driven projects. Following her Oscar nomination for “Spencer” and the success of the drama “Love Lies Bleeding,” she ventured behind the camera with “The Chronology of Water” as a feature-length directing project. Previously, she had directed short films as well as music videos.
