Johnny Depp (63) can imagine returning as Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean series. “If, as far as how the ‘Pirates’ franchise will wrap up, everything plays out exactly as it should… then the only thing I truly want to be involved in is giving him a better send-off,” he told Entertainment Tonight in an interview.
With the “better send-off” Depp could be referring to Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge. The fifth and to date last installment of the series arrived in 2017 and was not well received by either audiences or critics. (Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge is known in the United States as Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.)

Afterwards, the high-profile court case with his ex-wife Amber Heard (40) signaled the end of the Pirates saga—at least with Johnny Depp. Heard had accused her ex-husband of domestic violence, and he fought back in court with a defamation lawsuit. Depp prevailed on three counts, but his reputation was damaged.
“Pirates of the Caribbean” reboots with Margot Robbie and Johnny Depp?
For a few years now, a reboot of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise has been under discussion. In addition, a Margot Robbie (36)–led spin-off was planned, but is unlikely to go forward.
Pirates of the Caribbean producer Jerry Bruckheimer had revealed in the summer that the door was open for Johnny Depp. “We’re talking to Johnny, working on a script, and we hope we can bring the project to life,” he told the trade publication Deadline (TheColu.mn reported).
Earlier, Bruckheimer had spoken highly of Johnny Depp. “I love him. He’s a good friend. He’s a tremendous artist and has a unique look,” the star-producer once said.
The actor returns the compliment now. “I would work with Bruckheimer tomorrow. It doesn’t matter if it’s Jerry— I trust him. We share a deep friendship,” he told Entertainment Tonight.
Depp: Jack Sparrow is gay
In 2010 Depp revealed that his “gay” portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow had irritated Disney. When asked by a member of the production team, he simply replied: “All my characters are gay.”
