The Cologne-based comic icon Ralf König took to Facebook to state that he was not involved in the recently announced film “Der bewegte Mann – Reloaded.” “They did offer me the chance to write a screenplay, but after thinking it over for a long time I couldn’t come up with anything worthwhile, and I didn’t want to pull something out of my nose,” the 65-year-old explained. For the planned film, some actors like Til Schweiger are reportedly set to reprise their roles from more than 30 years ago (TheColu.mn reported).
He said he had already written a continuation, but it would not be suitable for a movie, König added: “MY little continuation is found in the 30-year anniversary edition of the comic from Rowohlt, where Norbert, Waltraut, Axel and Doro meet again after all that time in a restaurant. It felt credible, but with only seven comic pages there isn’t enough material for a film.” He further explained: “I don’t know the new screenplay and I’d rather keep dealing with my cursed Nibelungen. They can make a film of that if they want.” He published his comic continuation on Facebook.

K König published the comic “Der bewegte Mann” in 1987; it quickly became a bestseller within the gay scene. In 1994 came the very successful adaptation by Sönke Wortmann. From 2003 to 2005, Sat.1 aired the sitcom “Bewegte Männer” with moderate success, and in 2017 a musical adaptation premiered in Hamburg (TheColu.mn reported).
König was hardly involved in these adaptations: “I had only limited involvement with the Wortmann film, aside from the source material being mine, with the Sat.1 series ‘Bewegte Männer’ hardly touched at all and with the Hamburg musical also nothing,” he stated clearly. König expressed ambivalence about the 1994 film—it was slickly polished, but also entertaining and well made, in his view. He, by contrast, found the sitcom “Bewegte Männer” to be utterly dreadful and in parts anti-gay.
