Europa Passage Refuses Rainbow Flag-Waving Visitors

Security personnel barred several people carrying rainbow flags from entering the Europa Passage shopping mall during Christopher Street Day (CSD) in Hamburg. The security firm reportedly refused entry at two entrances or asked attendees to roll up their flags, according to a police spokesperson. They cited the building’s rights to control access as the justification.

Those affected then called the police. Officers intervened, and, according to the police, the security staff subsequently changed their behavior. The police had no immediate information on how many people were turned away as of Sunday. It was also not clear whether the officers opened any investigations into the incidents.

The Europa Passage center management did not respond to a request for comment at first: management was unavailable outside business hours over the weekend.

Earlier, Hamburger Morgenpost had reported on the incidents.
