Hamburg: 21-Year-Old Woman Punched in the Face, Targeted by Homophobic Abuse

On Tuesday evening, a 21-year-old woman in Hamburg’s Sternschanze district was assaulted by an unknown man and subjected to homophobic insults. The police are asking the public for information.
According to initial findings, the 21-year-old was walking along Schulterblatt when, near Susannenstraße, she was brushed by a passing electric scooter. When this behavior was brought to the rider’s attention, he is said to have stopped abruptly and, without warning, punched the 21-year-old in the face with such force that she fell to the ground. After the attacker continued to hurl homophobic insults, he fled on his scooter toward Max-Brauer-Allee/Altonaer Straße.
Efforts to identify the attacker through a manhunt did not yield results. The police describe the suspect as: “25 to 30 years old, about 190 cm tall, of southern appearance, black hair brushed to the right, full beard, wearing a light blue long-sleeved shirt.” A paramedics crew treated the lightly injured 21-year-old on the scene. The State Protection unit responsible for hate-crime investigations (LKA 73) is handling the case.
Witnesses who observed any relevant details or who can provide information about the suspect are asked to call the Hamburg Police tip line at (040) 4286-56789 or contact a police station. (pm)
