Shortly after daybreak on Saturday, an unknown man in Hamburg’s St. Pauli district allegedly assaulted a 40-year-old man, apparently motivated by homophobia, and police are asking the public for tips.
According to the preliminary findings of the Criminal Police, the victim was on Talstraße when he was approached by two unknown men about his sexual orientation. As the incident unfolded, one of the suspects suddenly struck the 40-year-old and injured him on the head. The assailant, described as having black hair, a black full beard, and an overall “southern” appearance, then fled with his companion toward Simon-von-Utrecht-Straße.
An alerted ambulance crew transported the lightly injured 40-year-old to a hospital for treatment. The investigations are now being conducted by the State Protection unit responsible for hate-crime in the State Criminal Police Office (LKA 73) and remain ongoing.
The police urge witnesses who observed the suspect or who can provide any other information about him to contact the Hamburg Police tip line at (040) 4286-56789 or to reach out to any police station.
